![]() Why Advanced Placement? Advanced Placement is a nationally recognized program of academic excellence and has been an important resource at Dansville High School for many years. Advanced Placement provides college-level coursework and college-level exams for high school students in 37 courses across 22 different subject areas. Dansville High School currently offers five AP courses. Students who achieve a passing or higher score on the AP exam may receive college credit or skip introductory classes at many colleges. Advanced Placement differs from local college credit obtained in high school (such as Genesee Community College, or G.C.C. credit) in that the tests for AP are a national standard. Achieving a successful score on the AP exam is recognized nationally as an indication that the student has met a demanding, college-level challenge. AP participation is a strong, positive factor in competitive college admissions. Participation in the Advanced Placement program can sharpen a student's writing and analytical skills, broaden their intellectual horizons, and give them a head start on material they may wish to explore in college. Our children can be challenged and excel in many ways other than Advanced Placement. For the Dansville REACH program, however, AP provides an objective measure of academic achievement via the national AP exams.
