Frequently Asked Questions What is the Dansville REACH award? Dansville REACH will award scholarships to Dansville students who achieve a score of 3 or higher on an Advanced Placement exam. For the 2009-2010 academic year Dansville REACH will award $250 for each AP exam passed with a score of 3 or higher. Is there more to Dansville REACH besides the award for AP test scores? Yes. Dansville REACH is covering the students' cost of enrolling in the AP exam (for 2009-2010 these fees are covered by Dansville High School), and is offering grants to Dansville Central Schools for teacher development, curriculum development, study materials, equipment, or other items which will help raise Dansville's Advanced Placement achievement. What can the award scholarship be used for? The Dansville REACH award will be given as a check to the student after the AP exam results are available. The award may be spent at the discretion of the student and their family however they see fit. There are no restrictions placed on the award. Who can participate in the Dansville REACH AP incentive? Any Dansville School District full-time student who achieves a score of 3 or higher on an AP exam during the 2008-2009 or 2009-2010 academic years is eligible for the award. Do I have to be in an AP class to be eligible for the award? No. The College Board allows students to challenge the AP exam even if they have not been enrolled in an AP course in that subject. Accordingly, Dansville REACH will reward any student achieving a score of 3 or higher on the AP exam whether or not they were in a related AP course. Which AP course can qualify for the Dansville REACH award? Any of the current 37 subject area AP exams are eligible for the Dansville REACH award. However, the foreign language exams are eligible only to students for whom the language is not their native tongue. Is there a limit to how many Dansville REACH awards I can receive? No, students will be awarded for each AP exam for which they achieve a score of 3 or higher. Thus a student getting 3 or higher on five AP exams would receive five Dansville REACH awards. However, each AP exam passed will only be awarded once per student. Thus, if a student took AP Chemistry this year and scored a 3, then took the same test next year and scored a 5, they would only receive a Dansville REACH award for the first passing score. How do I apply for the Dansville REACH award? No application is needed. Simply notify Dansville REACH once you have received your AP score from the College Board (usually in July). Will Dansville REACH cover the exam registration fee? During 2007-08 and 2008-09 Dansville REACH covered the registration costs for the exams. For 2009-2010 Dansville High School has budgeted funds to cover the registration fees. Dansville REACH applauds the committment of the High School and the Board of Education to raising academic expectations in Dansville. Why is Dansville REACH doing this? See Why Dansville REACH. Who is Dansville REACH? Dansville REACH is sponsored by Dansville Citizens for K.I.D.S.
